Tips for Brushing Your Teeth

Brushing your teeth is an integral part of oral hygiene and is included in every person’s daily routine. However, most people do not know the proper basics of dental hygiene nor are they aware of the potential mistakes they are making while doing so. Here are a few common mistakes:

  • The proper time to brush your teeth is generally regarded to be twice: once before you sleep and once after you wake up.
  • Hard bristled brushes are not required to remove plaque formation in the teeth. Plaque is soft and can be easily removed using a soft brush. Using a hard bristled brush can be damaging not only for your teeth but also for your gums.
  • Proper technique is the holy grail of brushing teeth. A suitable approach for brushing teeth does not involve how hard you brush your teeth, but the techniques involved in doing so. Place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle where the teeth meet the gums. Press firmly, and gently rock the brush back and forth using small circular movements.

While it may seem obvious, it is also essential to replace your toothbrush every few months. No amount of brushing your teeth would be effective without a proper brush. Replacing your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if you are ill or notice the bristles have worn out.
